Chambers told the council that WELD sees Everett and Snohomish County as the nonprofit's next region for expansion because of limited local reentry resources and high numbers of people sent to state prison from the county.
He said WELD has applied for HUD capital funding to develop housing and programming in Snohomish County and is meeting with local officials, including the county council and other stakeholders, to plan service delivery. "Our goal is to come to Everett Snohomish County as our next move, so we can serve the folks up here," Chambers said.
Chambers emphasized local partnerships and cited that Snohomish County "sends the 3rd most people to prison of anyone in the state," noting a need for locally based reentry resources and support services.
