Village to run leak-detection after study finds about 70% water loss

Trustees heard that a recent North End water infrastructure study identified significant system losses and that the village is moving to a targeted leak-detection program. Becky said the engineering report was submitted to qualify Green Island for grant lists and that the leak-detection effort will test fire hydrants and locate valve shutoffs to identify where water may be escaping.
"We discovered in the North End waters infrastructure study that we just completed ... that we're losing ... 70% of the water that's produced," Becky said, noting the village has submitted an engineering report (about $68,000 for the Hastings portion of the work) and is adding leak detection as an amendment to that contract. Staff said the detection team will start with hydrants that lead to the reservoir and also check for potential leaks under Route 787.
