The board voted to approve a special-use permit for Rock Body Works to operate a massage and sports-therapy clinic in a commercial space on Lower Hudson Avenue. The board’s chair opened the item by noting the application and asked whether there were questions before a motion to approve was called.
The applicant described the business as a sports massage operation that offers "hot hot rock" massage and said it would operate seven days a week, with hours discussed as roughly 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. "They do the hot hot rock massage," the applicant said. The applicant also said the location would employ about six people and would not generate truck traffic, describing the interior layout as a reception area, an office and on-site laundry.
A staff member reminded the applicant to complete the standard fit-up permitting process with the building department and to secure a certificate of occupancy before opening, and asked the applicant to coordinate on Knox-box placement for emergency access. "We're trying to get all of our commercial spaces to do the Knox boxes so if you can work with the fire department...that would be great," the staff member said.
After brief public and board exchanges, a motion to approve the special-use permit was moved and seconded and the board voted in favor. Board members did not record additional conditions beyond the standard permitting items discussed; staff will follow up on building-department steps and Knox-box placement as part of the pre-occupancy process.
