Students from across the district showcase projects and service at board meeting
Summary
Elementary and secondary student groups presented projects, service activities and awards to the board; the superintendent highlighted research partnerships and arts recognitions as examples of district success.
Students from multiple schools presented to the board on May 20, describing classroom projects, service drives and extracurricular achievements. Second-graders from Daisy School explained a 3-D printing bookmark project and said, "We are 2nd grader that attend DD school. We created a project that we want to share with you." Gribben School students described food drives, placemats for nursing-home residents and an autism-awareness buddy reading program.
Middle- and high-school student leaders reported on service and school events: the National Junior Honor Society described fundraising and partnerships, the Landing student council recounted bake sales and Walk-a-thon activities to support Blood Cancer United, and three students qualifying for a state math championship were recognized for advancing to Albany on June 13. Superintendent Dr. Dashner also noted the high school's theater program received a national recognition as one of 15 premier theater-education schools.
