District adopts semester calendar change for 2025–26; state testing and bus drills scheduled

Superintendent Jamie Kraatz introduced the 2025–26 school-year calendar, saying the district will move to a semester model that ends semester one before winter break and begins semester two at the start of the new year. "Students and teachers will greatly benefit from this change," Kraatz said, and he described the schedule as a more student-centered testing calendar.
Kraatz told trustees that state testing starts this week and that the SAT for juniors begins tomorrow. He also reminded the board that the Michigan Department of Education requires three bus evacuation drills per year, with the next drill scheduled for April 9 and to take place on every district bus. Student board members provided additional event details: Heritage’s Extra Special Music Concert is set for Wednesday in the Vasher Theater; White Pine’s Spring Play "Puff" runs Friday through Sunday; Heritage will host an 'Oscars' event honoring the 2025 seniors on Saturday; HOSA travels to Traverse City next week for its state leadership conference; and a blood drive and Spring Special Olympics at Saginaw Valley State University are scheduled for April 17.
