Superintendent warns Sherwood Pool repairs push project over budget; Heritage pool leak to be repaired

Superintendent Jamie Kraatz reported that planned mechanical updates at Sherwood Pool have grown beyond available funds and that the district is working with contractor Spence Brothers on next steps. "A nonnegotiable is a safe entrance," Kraatz said, and he said the district will try to secure every cent from the approved grant while exploring alternatives to address the shortfall.
Kraatz also detailed repairs at Heritage Pool, saying a seam below a metal grate where it meets tile is the main cause of the leak and will be re-caulked; pool drain covers will be replaced and missing tile on the pool floor — which is creating suction — will be repaired. He said a proposal and timeline for the pool work will be shared with the board. Separately, Kraatz said recent electrical outages at Heritage High School were linked to an outdated fuse system; SET-SEG is aware of the potential claim and district electricians will return with cost estimates. Kraatz additionally reported that the Heritage High School press box siding and signage are complete after fundraising by the Music Boosters, the Heritage Athletic Association, and a donation from Stuart Schweigert.
