Michelle Polish asked whether teachers and administrators had already received legislative raises and whether the district had explored cuts before proposing a tax increase; she also said, "a $139,000 of taxpayer money was spent to purchase cheerleading, dance, band, and color guard uniforms" and asked whether those expenses could be cut. Business Administrator Leon Wilcox responded that those purchases are generally covered by participant fees, not general taxpayer funds, except where state fee‑waiver rules require the district to cover costs for eligible students.
Joey Cathcart criticized the district's early‑release Fridays as reducing instruction by about 90–120 minutes weekly (roughly 50 hours per school year) and said asking property owners to pay more while instructional time is shortened was unacceptable. Board member Nybar answered that early‑release Fridays are used for teacher professional learning communities (PLCs) in which teachers collaborate about student needs and lessons rather than time lost to noninstructional matters.
