City authorizes annual $25,927 payment to Alpine Software for fire-department records and CAD services

The council approved a $25,927 annual contract payment to Alpine Software for the Fire Department's records, inventory and computer-aided dispatch system; staff and the vendor said the proprietary system has been in use since about 2001 and migration would be costly.
A resolution authorizing the annual payment of $25,927 to Alpine Software for the Fire Department—s electronic records, inventory and computer-aided dispatch functions was introduced and approved Aug. 4 as part of the council's consent items. Staff told the council Alpine has provided services to the department for more than 20 years and is a sole-source provider due to the proprietary nature of the system.
Vendor representative Scott Kevin said the department has used Alpine since about 2001 and that the software performs vehicle maintenance tracking, inventory control, attendance and required federal and state reporting. Staff noted that switching to another provider would require substantial migration, retraining and new maintenance fees. "If we were to need to go to another software company...we'd have to pay them for moving all the records over and then they would have a maintenance fee also," the vendor said.
