Council hears major cost increase for Osage Lane lift-station pumps

CIP Manager Patrick Hubbard alerted council members that the city’s revised opinion of cost for the Osage Lane Lift Station pumps rose sharply from an initial estimate of $436,000 to $765,940. He attributed the increase to unexpected technical engineering challenges — notably the need for a larger pump to meet TCEQ hydraulic requirements — and general inflation in construction costs.
Hubbard told the council the jump reflected both scope changes and market pressures: “The primary thing that's driving that is, actually technical engineering challenges… the distance that it's pumping it is so far that the amount of horsepower that they need to meet the statutory requirements under TCEQ is such that they have to upsize it to a pump that's quite a bit bigger,” he said. Council members and staff discussed contingency allowances, design completion and how the project will be funded in the upcoming capital plan.
