Salvation Army honors Lucas for mayoral Red Kettle fundraising

Michael Shereen, county director for community relations and fundraising for Collin and Denton Counties with the Salvation Army, presented a certificate and an engraved bell to city leaders in recognition of the city's participation in the 2024 Mayor's Red Kettle challenge for the Plano Corps. He said the city raised $585 between the day-of bell ringing on Dec. 6 and a virtual red kettle that ran through the end of December.
"You actually raised $585 between the day of bell ringing on December 6 and then the virtual red kettle that went through the end of December as well, too," Shereen said. He described a client helped by Salvation Army services as an example of how the funds are used.
Mayor Dusty Kuykendahl and council members thanked the volunteers and the Salvation Army for their work. The presentation was ceremonial; no council action was required.
