Staff proposes tiered rental fees, rules to open boardwalk areas for private events
Summary
Staff recommended opening three boardwalk areas for private rentals with tiered fees favoring Johns Creek residents, rules modeled on Newtown Amphitheater, and special-event surcharges for very large gatherings; committee members asked about likely uses, alcohol permits and simultaneous bookings.

Staff presented a draft fee and rules package to allow private rentals at three boardwalk areas — the band shell, West Overlook and North Overlook — while keeping the park accessible to the broader public during events.
"So we're gonna allow for private events that can keep the park accessible to the broader community while they're doing their events," Haggard said. Staff proposed tiered rates with lower hourly fees for Johns Creek residents, nonprofits and businesses and higher rates for individuals and organizations based outside Johns Creek; staff said the structure mirrors pricing used at Newtown Park and other locations. Haggard added special-event costs (for police and maintenance) would push fees higher for very large gatherings.
Committee members asked for examples of anticipated uses (weddings, corporate team-building, graduation parties), whether alcohol would be permitted (staff said an alcohol permit would be tied to the event and special-event approval is required) and how staff would manage simultaneous bookings and public access to trails during private events. Staff said public circulation paths would remain open and that renters would not get exclusive closure of trails.
