Johns Creek council backs applying supplemental LMIG funds to Lakefield Drive streetscape

"Staff recommends applying for the supplemental fiscal year '26 LMIG funds and allocating them to the Lakefield Drive Streetscape project," Director Connor said, asking councilors for questions. Council members who spoke supported the recommendation, noting the Lakefield project is already underway and that supplemental funds would help advance construction near the Town Center.
Councilors and staff discussed how the LMIG allocation interacts with the city's capital improvement plan. Staff and several councilors said the LMIG money would reduce, but not eliminate, the remaining CIP funding needed for full completion; council members requested staff return with refined cost estimates and a plan for any remaining funding gaps.
The council's initial support for Lakefield came during a broader review of three candidate projects for the supplemental LMIG dollars: Lakefield Drive Streetscape, the Medlock Bridal Trail, and an intersection improvement at McGinnis Ferry Road serving the Riverwalk subdivision. Council members asked staff to coordinate timing so the Lakefield work can align with other Town Center construction and to return with a precise funding plan.
