Staff reports busy spring: festivals, concerts, fitness and senior programming

Interim director Haggard gave the committee an overview of recent Recreation and Parks programming and upcoming events, telling members that Park Place remains active with fitness and social programming and that leagues and special events are continuing into spring and summer.
"Park Place continues to do their programming," Haggard said, highlighting trips to the High Museum of Art, a 5K at Color Creek Park, the Daffodil Days event (about 2,500 attendees) and a battle-of-the-bands that drew several hundred people. Haggard also previewed an international festival at Heisman Field, a Boardwalk grand-opening concert with a ribbon cutting and a family 'touch a truck' event at City Hall.
Haggard noted ongoing programming for seniors (including a Pinnacle card-game activity at the senior center) and that staff programmers regularly bring guest speakers to Park Place on topics such as legal trusts and fraud prevention.
