Council trims advisory board size and formalizes excused-absence process

Acting chair reported the City Council adopted two changes on March 30 affecting the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee: the board will be set at 11 members now and will move toward a permanent size of nine members as vacancies occur.
"Council just adopted that this is an 11 member board," the acting chair said, adding the ordinance directs the board to settle at nine members over time and that current vacancies will not be filled until the smaller size is reached. The acting chair said the committee will receive the ordinance language by email.
The council also added a provision allowing members to submit requests for excused absences to the city clerk before scheduled meetings. The provision lists examples such as jury duty, bereavement and illness but excludes work-related obligations. The acting chair said the clerk will work with the committee chair to determine whether an absence is excused.
The committee did not take a vote on either council action during this meeting; the acting chair presented the changes for awareness and said staff would circulate the adopted language.
