Calhoun County ISD trustees vote to take no action on parental grievance relief request

The Calhoun County Independent School District Board of Trustees reconvened from a closed session at 7:25 p.m. on Jan. 14 and voted to take no action on the relief requested by a parental grievant.
A motion made by Trustee Dominic Robles and seconded by Trustee Vinson Phillips proposed that "the board take no action as to the relief requested by the grievant because the relief requested is outside the scope of the board’s authority and differs from the relief requested at Level One. With regard to the concern about the superintendent, I move the board address this according to board policy." The motion carried with five ayes (Cindy Alford, Dana Dworaczyk, Vinson Phillips, Dominic Robles and Bill Shrader) and two abstentions (Tyler McAfee and Michael Williams).
The minutes record that Chelsea and Daniel Burriss were present to represent the grievance filed by C. Burriss; the board heard two public comments on that grievance during the public-comment portion of the meeting. The board directed that concerns related to the superintendent be handled under applicable board policy rather than by granting the specific relief requested in the grievance.
