"They have suggested some items that we can put in the time capsule, including photos, letters of the graduating classes from each school, drone shots of Johns Creek and surrounding area of our city," Amanda said while listing options the school engagement committee recommended. Several members cautioned that USB drives and similar digital media can become obsolete; one member said data stored on USB drives, VHS tapes or CDs will likely not be accessible decades from now without active preservation. Committee members recommended including tangible items (letters, local memorabilia, gas-price receipts or lists of local accomplishments) in addition to any digital archive and asked staff to research data-preservation options.
Staff said the time capsule would be placed on city property but that a final location was not yet determined. The item will be returned to the school engagement committee for further vetting and a future recommendation to ACE.
