The committee heard from city staff that the new Boardwalk is now open and will host several America 250 events this summer, including a May 8 grand opening concert featuring the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra and a 90-minute performance set that will open the summer concert series.
"1st, the boardwalk is now open," Amanda, a city staff member presenting to the committee, said. She also told the group that staff finalized a fireworks launch site, booked food trucks and arranged for booths to serve alcohol at the event. The committee packet lists an International Festival on Saturday, May 2; Amanda said sponsorship, vendor and performer applications are open and will close on April 10. She asked the committee to help recruit sponsors so planned activities can proceed.
The update included a list of recent community events (Lunar New Year, Battle of the Bands, Daffodil Days, annual Bunny Hop) that staff said drew high turnout and helped staff refine logistics for larger events later this year. The city also noted the Johns Creek Veterans Association and other community organizations are involved in programming for America 250.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the overall event plan during the meeting; staff said they will return with additional details at the next ACE meeting.
