Rick Hansen urges board to comply with public-records law, warns settlement could raise rates

Rick Hansen, identifying himself as a "Newsman and author," used the meeting's public-comment period to urge the Board of Sanitary Commissioners to comply with public-records law amid a state investigation and to make ordinances and resolutions available to the public. "Not only do you have to provide the agenda, you still have to provide the ordinances and resolutions for the public, which the county is now complying," Hansen said.
Hansen also raised concerns about wastewater-rate impacts tied to interdistrict agreements, saying prior deals have led to higher rates and urging caution in the board's negotiations with Delaware. "So I hope that whatever agreement you reach with Delaware does not raise our rates again because at every time there's an agreement with ... one of these other wastewater treatment districts, our rates go up," he said. The Chair thanked Hansen for his comment and proceeded with the agenda without taking immediate action on his requests.
