Board retires two policies and approves a package of third-read policies

The Albany Area Schools board voted to retire two policies and approved a package of third-read policies at its June 11 meeting.
Member Sands moved, and Member Rueter seconded, to retire policies 430 (Classified Employee Meal and Rest Period) and 580 (Restrictive Procedures for Special Education Students); the motion passed with all present voting in favor. The board also approved third readings for a list of policies including 203 (Operation of the School Board - Governing Rules), 213 (School Board Committees), 406 (Public and Private Personnel Data), 412 (Expense Reimbursement), 421 (Gifts to Employees and School Board Members), 427 (Workload Limits for Certain Special Education Teachers), 501 (School Weapons Policy), 502 (Search of Student Lockers, Desks, Personal Possessions, and Student's Person), 526 (Hazing Prohibition), 529 (Staff Notification of Violent Behavior by Students), 530 (Immunization Requirements), 531 (The Pledge of Allegiance), 612.1 (Development of Parent and Family Engagement Policies for Title I Programs), 705 (Investments), 714 (Fund Balances), 807 (Health and Safety Policy), 809 (Naming Rights Policy) and 902 (Use of School District Facilities and Equipment).
Board members supported the motions; administration noted policy retirements were aligned with state law changes where applicable. The adopted policies will guide district governance and operations going forward.
