The Avon Elementary principal reported to the Albany Area Schools board on June 25 that the school will target a reduction in the percentage of students scoring below reading benchmark from 37% to 33% for the coming year. The principal attributed the goal to strengthened intervention systems and staff training.
To reach that target, the principal said the school is implementing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and LETRS training for teachers and is using specific curricula and assessments — "UFLI (K–2), Reading Wonders, and FastBridge tracking" — to monitor student progress and guide instruction. "Reading goal: reduce % of students below benchmark from 37% to 33%" the principal reported, noting the figures as the basis for staffing and intervention planning.
