The superintendent asked the board to grant permission for the administration to issue employment contracts during June, July and August to avoid losing candidates to other offers.
"This would give you the ability to issue contracts, to move it forward so that we don't get hung up on the calendar board meetings every week," the superintendent said, explaining that the hiring process can be drawn out and that timely offers matter in the current job market. Board members discussed the motion and its limits; the motion was moved and seconded with the expectation that HR will report any contracts issued under that authority.
Members emphasized the need to define clear reporting and limits so the board retains oversight even if the superintendent has delegated contract-signing authority for the summer months.
