The superintendent encouraged board approval for permission to issue employment contracts over June, July and August, arguing that the job market is competitive and delays can cost the district candidates.
"This would give you the ability to issue contracts, to move it forward so that we don't get hung up on the calendar board meetings every week," the superintendent said, noting that candidates sometimes have other offers if contract issuance is delayed. The board discussed the rationale and practicality of delegating temporary contract authority to administration to secure hires over the summer.
The superintendent also reported on recent attendance at the district budget meeting (about 71 people), reminded the public about an upcoming referendum reminder letter, and praised the district's graduating students and staff work supporting them.
