Superintendent Ben told the board the district will host a districtwide professional-development day on March 13 with 74 sessions running from 8:00 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m., and materials will be posted to board folders and the district website. “We have 74 sessions that are being offered on March 13. The day begins at 8, ends at 02:30,” Ben said.
Principals described literacy and student-engagement activities tied to the district literacy push. Carrie Brennan, principal of the James Dean School, described a fourth-grade entrepreneurship unit (the “Sydney Mall”) that raised $1,200 for local charities. Melanie Smith and other elementary leaders outlined the district’s March Madness nonfiction brackets, family book events, and a parent engagement program using a book called Flooded to teach regulation strategies.
