SMCOE to host statewide CISC symposium; deputy superintendent spotlights new 'Seeds to Solutions' curriculum

Deputy Superintendent Marco Chávez told the Board that the San Mateo County Office of Education was selected to host the 2026 Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee (CISC) Symposium in Monterey on Feb. 18–20 and that the County Office has spent a year preparing to showcase local work. "The County Office was selected to host the 2026 Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee (CISC) Symposium in Monterey on February 18–20," Chávez said.
Chávez also described the Seeds to Solutions curriculum—developed in partnership with Ten Strands and funded by the California Department of Education—which focuses on sustainability themes including food waste, water use, and wildfires. He acknowledged Superintendent Nancy Magee’s retirement announcement and noted the Board’s interest in planning celebratory events. The Board received the initial bargaining proposals exchanged with CSEA Chapter 158; no bargaining action was taken at the meeting.
