The Albert Lea Public School District school board on March 18 named five semifinalists in its search for a new superintendent, selecting Dr. Steven Heil, Mandy Fletcher, Dr. Michael Neubeck, Beth Giese and Dr. Jami Jo Thompson.
Barb Dorn of MSBA reviewed the pool for the board, telling members there were 14 applicants in total, including four from outside Minnesota. Dorn reported that eight applicants had prior superintendent experience, six held doctorate degrees and two were in the process of earning doctorates. Using MSBA's recommendations, the board narrowed the field to the five candidates who will advance to first-round interviews.
Board members discussed next steps for the hiring timeline and the format of interviews, and the board confirmed logistical arrangements to ensure a consistent process for each candidate. The selection of semifinalists sets the district up for first-round interviews and finalist visits in the coming weeks.
