Albert Lea board adopts broader community inclusion for superintendent finalist interviews

The Albert Lea Area Schools board voted Feb. 27, 2025, to adopt Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) Option 3 to include additional community participants in finalist interviews for the superintendent search. The roll‑call vote carried 6‑1; only board member Neal Skaar voted no.
Barb Dorn, MSBA representative, presented the three options for public input and explained how each would work. Dorn told the board that "MSBA process offers three options for the school board to include additional groups in their finalist interviews." After discussion, the board first rejected Option 1 on a 3‑4 roll call and then approved Option 3 by a 6‑1 vote. The board indicated the adopted option will guide who may participate in the finalist interview panels and how public perspectives are collected.
