During the public comment period on Item 6, the Board heard from a large slate of speakers representing parents, students, teachers, founding members and community supporters who urged approval or expressed support for Oceanlight's countywide model. Supporters included students who spoke in favor, founding teachers and community members who framed the petition as an equity-driven option for North San Mateo County.
Opposition came from a smaller group including representatives of the San Bruno Education Foundation (Heather Latta), the California Teachers Association (Kathleen Beebe), Amanda Anthony (Board President, South San Francisco Unified School District) and a labor relations representative (Dustin Patenaude). The Board received both written comments in advance and live testimony at the meeting.
