DNR lead reports iButton deployments and canopy assessments under way in Poulsbo

Chelsea Harris, lead for the DNR grant project, updated the Poulsbo Tree Board on fieldwork related to urban canopy assessment and microclimate monitoring. "Right now, we have 25 of the I buttons out," Harris said, and the group plans to have the devices deployed by the 22nd. Harris outlined the schedule: deployment and monitoring through September–December, data analysis beginning in January, and recommendations produced as data becomes available through spring.
Board members discussed site selection and public-rights-of-way constraints for placing loggers. Harris and staff agreed to coordinate with planning and the city GIS so devices are placed on public parcels; staff offered to connect the DNR team with the city's updated GIS layer to avoid private-property placements and speed deployment.
Members also discussed intern roles, the forester’s report that accompanies application submittals for site visits, and a proposed check-in cadence so staff and the grant team can share monthly updates with the board. The DNR lead said there is some work to ensure all deployment sites are on public property but described that as manageable and part of normal coordination with city planning.
