The Utah State Tax Commission on Sept. 3 approved submitting a proposed repeal of R884-24P-28 (Reporting Requirements for Leased or Rented Personal Property) to the Office of Administrative Rules for publication in the Utah State Bulletin.
Commissioner Rebecca L. Rockwell said staff and the Property and Miscellaneous Tax functional area concluded "there is not sufficient support in the Utah Code to require the submission of the report on leased or rented heavy equipment required by this rule," and recommended repealing the rule. Commissioner Michael J. Cragun asked about the filing deadline for publication; Executive Assistant Chantay Asper confirmed the filing deadline was Sept. 3, 2024, at midnight. The commission took a roll-call vote and the motion passed unanimously.
The repeal, if published, will open a mandatory public comment period ending Oct. 15, 2024, after a planned publication date of Sept. 15, 2024. No further action on the repeal was recorded at the meeting beyond the submission motion and unanimous roll-call approval.
