Poulsbo LTAC emphasizes off‑season, overnight stays and new applicants when weighing grants

At a Poulsbo open house, staff outlined the committee's funding priorities for lodging‑tax awards and said applicants that demonstrate overnight stays and off‑season draws will be advantaged.
"They are really focusing on new applicants that focus on tourism, marketing and marketing and operations of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists," Lynn Heino told attendees. She added the committee is emphasizing events created during the off season (October through April) and projects that can show demonstrable proportionality to overnight stays.
Heino said the advisory committee has been using a practice guideline that limits operations funding to a smaller portion of awards: "A maximum of 25% of funding can be used towards operations," she said, but later clarified the figure is a funding consideration and not an absolute prohibition.
Staff also said they try to support first‑time applicants through seed funding and proof‑of‑concept awards so new ideas can demonstrate visitor impact in subsequent years.
