Hot Sulphur Springs mayor reports nuisance complaints over metal recycling site; town to consider special-use permitting

Ray Tinkham, mayor of Hot Sulphur Springs, told the Board that the town had secured an installer for a bowl filter and sought county cooperation on a long-running metal-recycling nuisance near town. "We've had numerous complaints about that over the years," Tinkham said, adding the town pursued DOLA emergency grant funding for the filter and expects construction in October with operation by early next year.
Tinkham said the town's comprehensive-plan and land-use update may fold the recycling operation into a special-use-permit regime; until that code update and permitting are complete the operator will be allowed to continue. County staff reported they were unaware that county maintenance had been taking material there and said they would follow up; commissioners encouraged continued cooperation between the town and county on the issue.
