Selectmen approve Tom Dunn Park & Rec scholarship policy; board requests six-month update

The Board of Selectmen approved Park & Recreation’s Tom Dunn scholarship policy on Aug. 5, authorizing up to 20% of the scholarship fund’s principal to be used annually for participant scholarships. The fund principal was described in the meeting packet as approximately $10,000.
Park & Rec Director Nicole Vigneron explained how allocations will work if multiple applicants apply and said awards will be need‑based and flexible: “So if we have 3 people apply ... 20% would be $2,000, right, for the year ... and based on their needs, if they really need it, we're gonna get them a full scholarship,” she said. The board clarified that a full scholarship could cover 100% of a program cost and that a partial scholarship would be up to 50%.
Selectmen approved the application and department internal policies and added an amendment requesting Park & Rec provide an update in about six months to evaluate distribution and to recommend any tweaks to program guidelines. The board noted the policy allows Department discretion while urging clear guidelines for equitable distribution.
