Grand County assessor presents assessed-value abstract as board OKs snapshot for budgeting

Tom Weider, Grand County assessor, reviewed the assessed-value abstract that will be used by taxing authorities to prepare next year’s budgets. He told the board the abstract is a snapshot after valuations, protests and appeals and emphasized volatility from recent state special sessions and pending legislation. "We had to apply value reductions to over 19,000 accounts," Weider said, noting the repeated on/off application this year because of legislative changes.
Weider also said 33 new metropolitan districts were added to county records this year and flagged that monitoring and administration of tax increment financing and urban renewal mechanisms will add long-term responsibilities for the assessor's office. Commissioners approved the abstract and authorized the chair to sign so taxing entities can proceed with budget work. The board and staff discussed the uncertainty created by the state special session that started the week after the meeting.
