A district special-education staff member proposed creating a self-contained classroom for grades 3–5 to allow related services to push into that classroom and to reduce the number of students placed externally. The presenter said the district currently would consider bringing back roughly six students into such a classroom to provide a fuller continuum of services and reduce students’ time spent on buses. "What I have right now, it would be a total of 6 students that I would be considering right now," the presenter said.
The district’s business manager discussed the financial logic: "The tuition of those 6 students is around $200,000 a year," and he compared that to the estimated staffing cost of hiring a teacher and an aide (roughly $125,000–$150,000 combined). Board members discussed next-year timing, creating job descriptions, and directed staff to proceed with developing the option for implementation in the next school year if feasible.
