Lorain County Transit to hold public hearings on proposed discontinuation of Downtown Elyria Loop

Lorain County Transit staff told the Board the Downtown Elyria Loop has "very low ridership" and primarily transports jurors between a remote parking lot and the Justice Center. Transit staff proposed reallocating the Loop's service hours to the county's Dial‑A‑Ride service to increase capacity and better serve customers who are currently turned away.
Perkins (transit staff) said the move is intended to reduce a pattern of unmet demand: "there were about 20 people being turned away," Perkins said. The Board approved publishing a public notice for hearings tentatively set for May 20 at 1 p.m. and May 26 at 6 p.m.; the commissioners will consider the issue on May 22, 2026. Commissioners and transit staff said jurors and jail transport needs can be scheduled on an as-needed basis through Dial‑A‑Ride if the Loop is discontinued.
