Committee reappoints Deidra Jackson as chair of the county Commission for Women

Deidra Jackson, currently chair of the Prince George's County Commission for Women, addressed the Health, Human Services and Public Safety Committee and asked for reconsideration of her reappointment. Jackson described a year of work advocating for women and girls in the county and asked to continue serving: "I am a 20 year resident here in Prince George's County... I stand committed," she told committee members during her remarks. Marion Brewer noted that Amira O'Neil was not present because she was in class and that Iona Stoyfa had withdrawn her reappointment due to health and caregiving obligations.
A favorable motion to appoint Jackson and O'Neil was made and seconded; the committee recorded a roll-call vote of 4-0 in favor. Chair Wanika Fisher and other members offered brief remarks of support and congratulations. The nominations will be transmitted to full Council for final action.
