Committee raises alarm after ITD holds 70 projects, county loses over $1 million

Milton Ollerton reported that the Idaho Transportation Department had put 70 projects on hold and that the measure reduced Jefferson County’s budget by "over $1,000,000.00," a cut members said will constrain local road work. "This cut the county's budget by over $1,000,000.00," Ollerton said, and he plans to meet with ITD and ask whether ITD staff can brief the committee.
Committee members expressed concern that funding interruptions will leave local growth without required infrastructure. Jim Gerdes noted that some development may not proceed until roads and other infrastructure can be improved, and Steve Stringham said the county has improved right-of-way and private-road standards to mitigate impacts. The committee asked staff to request an ITD presentation and for County Commissioners to hold a public meeting about potential road projects if funding becomes available.
