Council member Chris Carlson told the council he has a memo and a draft ordinance for a vacant commercial building registration and inspection program and said that prioritizing the item in the work plan would allow him to bring the ordinance forward quickly.
Council members discussed the need for an inventory of vacant buildings and named several downtown spaces as examples, including the former U.S. Bank building, Mike's Place, Country Cottage and units behind Soleil and Hellebore. Members said that an accurate list of vacant properties would help shape any proposed registration or enforcement program.
