Superintendent Brian Rentsch opened a board discussion on Feb. 9 focused on the district’s financial forecast and capital plan, saying the district needs to examine ways to reduce costs. "We need to look at options to save money and possibly consolidate buildings," Rentsch said during the board discussion.
Board members Mrs. Host, Ms. Campbell and Mrs. Grandison agreed that the district should develop alternate plans (Plan B and C) in addition to the earlier millage reallocation option that is currently the subject of an appeal. Rentsch said he will work with building administrators to prepare multiple options and multi-year capital plans for each building so the board can evaluate potential closures, cost savings, and phased timelines. The matter remains at the discussion/direction stage; no formal motion to close buildings was made at the meeting.
