Claymont Board authorizes appeal over 4.2-mill reallocation

The Claymont City Board of Education voted unanimously Feb. 9 to authorize legal counsel to file an appeal with the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals after the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission did not recognize the district’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of 4.2 mills of inside millage for permanent improvements.
Mrs. Host moved the addendum and Ms. Campbell seconded; the roll call vote was recorded as unanimous. The resolution states: "The Board hereby authorizes legal counsel to file an appeal on its behalf in the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals from the February 9, 2026 decision of the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission ... unless the Commission takes action on or before March 1, 2026 acknowledging the Board’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of its 4.2 mills of inside millage." The action was later ratified under New Business with the same unanimous roll-call outcome.
Board President Mr. Peters and Superintendent Brian Rentsch were present for the vote; board members said the appeal is a procedural step to protect the district’s financing options while the commission has an opportunity to act before the stated March 1 deadline. No dissenting votes or amendments to the resolution were recorded.
