Mayor Mark Kownick told the board the village is working with the Illinois Municipal League (IML) and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus on a regional approach to housing and will advocate to the governor's office for incentives and infrastructure support.
"We believe we have made our case with the Build Act that that is not going to be picked up by any legislator, so it's going to, pretty much die the way it is," Kownick said. He described plans to organize the state into four regions with municipal representation and to develop regional recommendations for housing incentives and infrastructure needs.
The mayor said Cary and neighboring municipalities are collaborating to convey local priorities to state leaders; no specific legislative language or funding commitments were presented at the meeting.
