Cary staff posts e-bike guidance online as new Illinois law looms

Village staff told the board on Aug. 4 that the village website now includes information on e-bikes and micromobility devices and a QR code to direct residents to the materials.
"With the help of the police department and village staff, we crafted and updated our website on ebikes and micro mobility devices," the assistant village administrator said. Deputy Chief Nadenhoff warned that "the new legislation... really ties our hands on what we are able to govern at the local level" and said the village expects the law to take effect Jan. 1, 2027. Staff said it will return with proposals to amend local ordinances once the state law is finalized.
The website compares current Illinois rules with the pending changes and is intended as an informational resource for residents and businesses until the board considers any ordinance amendments.
