Resident raises repeated complaint that decorative street lights stay on during daytime

A Cary resident who identified himself as Elton told the Village Board on Aug. 4 that decorative LED area lights on South Wolf remain illuminated during daylight and that this has been an ongoing problem.
"The lights are on during the day, every day," Elton said, adding this was his third time raising the issue at a board meeting. He asked whether the village maintains an electricity "slush fund" and why an engineer could not adjust the lights to turn off during daytime hours. Mayor Mark Kownick said the board cannot resolve open-forum concerns on the spot but that staff would investigate. "I will have Caitlin take a look at this and we'll see what we can do," Kownick said.
Elton also said the lights "were on for the whole summer," noting the ongoing cost and visual impact. The mayor and staff did not provide an immediate timeline for repairs or adjustments. The board did not take formal action during the meeting; the mayor closed the open forum and moved to the rest of the agenda.
