Charles Town has joined the Chestnut Tree Society and the tree board expects to receive about 20–25 chestnut saplings next spring, Chair Aaron said. Members discussed using the arrival as the center of an Arbor Day–linked public event and identifying two or three public planting sites.
Aaron said the chestnut is a historically significant species and suggested Happy Retreat as a potential planting site near downtown. The board asked members to consider locations and event ideas so that plantings can be coordinated as a community celebration.
