The Town of Canaan Inland Wetlands and Conservation Commission voted unanimously to accept an application from Marylou Miller to repair a failed culvert, a washed-out bridge and to stabilize the streambank upstream of the culvert at 64 Music Mountain Road. Secretary Susan Kelsey recorded that "An application and a check for $135 was received from Miller to repair a culvert, washed-out bridge and to stabilize the streambank upstream from the culvert in an area of significant erosion and siltation." Kelsey moved to accept the application for review; Ellery Sinclair seconded the motion, and the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners said they would not proceed to a final decision until the applicant supplied engineered culvert sizing and more detailed plans for the proposed silt removal and streambank stabilization. Member Mark Burdick, who made a site visit before the meeting, flagged the need for the culvert to be properly sized by an engineer to prevent recurring failure. The commission asked Burdick to notify the applicant about the outstanding information requirements.
