Charles Town tree board defers $35,000 canopy inventory over cost concerns

The Charles Town Tree Board voted to table a proposed tree canopy inventory after learning vendor options began at roughly $35,000, Chair Aaron said. The board agreed to revisit the proposal if additional grant money becomes available.
Aaron told members the Bartlett Tree proposal circulated to the board included multiple options but that “those options were 35,000 or more for a tree inventory.” He said the estimated outlay was likely beyond the board’s budget at present and recommended waiting until more funding or matching grants were secured.
The decision means no contract will be signed at this meeting. Board members asked staff to keep the proposal on file and to look for grant opportunities; Chair Aaron said the item would be brought back to a future agenda when funding prospects improved.
