Commission reviews maintenance invoices, sets $5,000 approval threshold

Members reviewed several maintenance and repair items affecting municipally owned buildings and discussed who approves work and where costs come from. Staff described an out-of-the-ordinary $545 cooler repair and an electrical invoice of $3,008 to allow Ortega's to install a burrito press; the staff said the tenant's electrical layout was substandard and additional work (roughly another $5,000) may be needed in that space. "We did get that done," Staff member said of the cooler repair, and later explained, "she needed to bring in, you know, do $3,800 worth of electrical to get her burrito press installed."

Commissioners and staff clarified that routine maintenance requests are routed through maintenance director Jim Wisong who finds vendors and that the commission does not need to be convened for ordinary repairs. After discussion the commission agreed on a policy threshold: staff will proceed with repairs under $5,000, while repairs above $5,000 will prompt outreach to commissioners and may require an emergency session if urgent. The committee noted they would still review significant or aesthetic choices (for example paint color) before approving nonessential expenditures.
