Commission approves HDR task order to design Riverwood Avenue SE; GPR is not included due to cost/availability

The commission approved a task order with HDR for the design and related administrative work on Riverwood Avenue Southeast to align the work with the Memorial Highway project and avoid repeated disruption to residents and businesses.
Riley explained the blue segment in staff maps shows the portion not currently slated for reconstruction with Memorial Highway and said the city chose to pursue design now after unsuccessful applications for state flex funds. On GPR Riley said the city has "slated to not do the GPR just because there is an excess cost of us getting it from wherever state it is," noting that mobilization from out of state would add expense. Commissioners approved the amendment to the HDR contract by motion and roll call.
Staff said the approach would take advantage of contractor mobilization already in the area and reduce double impacts on businesses and households if the city were to reconstruct the corridor later. Engineering will include GPR as an optional scope item should availability or cost conditions change.
