Residents say rec‑center remodel departed from bond promises; urge pause and broader input

Anna Smith, a 22‑year resident, told council the presentation by the Davis Partnership felt ‘‘sneaky’’ because a meeting had been moved to a smaller room and some survey results were, in her view, dismissed. “Plans were presented by Davis Partnership did not align with the survey results nor with the initial plans of what our citizens need,” she said, and asked the council to explore other bids and options that keep tax dollars local.
Councilors noted the public concern and staff said additional engagement sessions are planned; staff will bring the results of upcoming rec‑center outreach back to council. The city also scheduled focused public input sessions for Aug. 22 to accommodate different user groups and to gather more detailed comments on fitness programming and design priorities.
