Gas pipeline safety division reports 66 inspections in June; two incidents, including 52-customer outage, resolved

Jonathan Kimbrell, who presented the Gas Pipeline Safety Division report, said the division conducted 66 inspections in June using 142 in-person days and issued eight enforcement letters citing 33 noncompliance items (29 first-time, four repeat violations).
"During the month of June, a total of 66 inspections were conducted, utilizing 142 in person days," Kimbrell told commissioners. He said 13 noncompliance items were corrected and verified during the month and that staff conducted two operator training sessions (one with 27 personnel and another with 35).
Kimbrell also described two potential incidents that did not meet state or federal reporting criteria: a Florence Gas above-ground service line was accidentally damaged by a claw grappler and later replaced, and Southeast Gas left a valve closed during maintenance that cut service to 52 customers; staff said service was reestablished the same day.
